JOSHUA  O'BRIEN

BIOGRAPHY

Josh O'Brien is a freshman Theatre major at Emerson College in Boston Massachusetts. After spending the last four years at the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing arts studying performance, tech theatre, and management, he is ready to venture into the territory of design and directing. With major interests in lighting design and on stage direction, Josh is planning on gaining as much knowledge in every theatrical field as he can before graduating in 2023.

Josh grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and did not discover theatre as a medium of expression until his freshman year of high school. Though he had a late start to the game, Josh has been able to learn quickly and develop a knowledge that extends beyond the stage and into the managerial positions of the theatre as well as the technical and creative. Josh has since devoted himself to immersing his life in the art. He plans to study directing and eventually move to Broadway to practice his craft, and maybe someday start a theatre company of his own.

Josh was the first to participate in an internship program at Majestic Repertory Theatre in downtown Las Vegas. Majestic has given him the opportunity to meet theatre professionals and make strong connections with designers, performers, and directors that he would have otherwise not known. It was at Majestic Repertory that Josh was able to stage manage beautiful productions like Marie Antoinette, and Cabaret;

productions like these inspired Josh to produce theatre and enhanced his love for musical theatre and for performance in general. Josh was also able to light design for this theatre and sparked an interest outside of stage management that let to designs recognized by local artists. Joshua's connection to this theatre has allowed him to grow my resume with beautiful and edgy shows that could never be done in his high school. He has also gained multiple professional contacts as well as opportunities in other theatre companies such as Las Vegas Little Theatre.

In June of 2018, Josh was nominated for a Valley Award under the category, "Best Light Design". His light design for Animal Farm was my first design for a main stage show, and it earned Josh his first nomination as well as mentions from the local art reviewers.

The goal is to create art.
